How one woman left a busy NYC life to become an accidental entrepreneur

Submitted by Wanderlust Andi

Rosie Yakob didn’t start out being a digital nomad working with her own location independent business. She was just taking a break from the incredibly busy life that working in New York City entails. But, she became, what she calls, an “accidental entrepreneur”.

  • She loved her job in New York City - every minute of it - until the last minute, when she found that her life was just a life of coping with the busyness of her job. As she says, "How quickly we trade happiness for business, or busyness, especially when it comes to work and salaries.”
  • So, she and her husband took off traveling the world, seeing friends and family, avoiding emails and phones, and just enjoying low-key days.
  • Then, some agencies they knew asked them to help with branding and advertising strategies, which they did remotely in Bali.
  • They then started working with other clients and, before they knew it, they had formed their own business where they could work remotely while pursuing their digital nomad life.

So, bottom line, they traded their salaried positions in for their own business they can do while traveling the world. In so doing, they found that they enjoy their life more. Because now, they can grow their business intentionally by only accepting clients and assignments they enjoy. Or, as they say:

"But really we live by one motto: make your life your life’s work."
