Do you want to open your hotel door with your smart phone?

Some hotels are beginning to experiment with keyless entry into hotel rooms. The hotels outfit their doors with special technology so that guests can use smart phones to open the doors. There are some issues with this, however. The biggest problems that have cropped up so far are convenience issues and issues involving guest security. However, major hotel brands have said they are working to stay "ahead of the curve" on these issues and are working to make this modernization become a better experience for their guests.

Interesting technology. This is not high on my list of hotel needs, though - it just seems too prone to security issues. Plus, it is easier to whip out my hotel card key vs. my iPhone. This could be a benefit, though, if you had an Apple watch.

Reduce travel stress

Traveling is stressful, and the stress doesn’t necessarily stop when you reach your destination. So make life easier by having the addresses you need on hand. Also, set the GPS in your phone for audible directions to get you where you’re going. Rent a car, unless you are somewhere taxis or public transit are easier to use, and when you rent, use a loyalty program to save time and paperwork. Check the weather too, to avoid surprises. Finally, allow yourself plenty of extra time.

Book a room nearby with your car's GPS

General Motors has a new service that will let you book hotel rooms right through your car. The paid service is called "AtYourService", and will allow you to find and book a room near you through OnStar at the hotel of your choice, right through Priceline.com.
