Some tips for a great family vacation

Are you thinking about a family vacation? Here are some tips for a great family vacation:

Plan well, or let others do it for you (such as an All-inclusive resort).
Take a Staycation, where you explore events and sites around a bigger city near you.
Travel with friends. This can greatly decrease the price (i.e. gas, sharing a vacation housing, etc.). Plus, the children can play together if they are the same age.
Keep an open mind. Not every detail will go the way you planned it, so embrace everything the vacation throws at you.
Have fun with your family - kids and adults alike!

And, one last tip if you are traveling by car: make the car trip part of the actual trip. My family often traveled 8 hours to go up to northern Minnesota. Even though the six of us were packed into a sedan, I valued the trip because my parents would stop often during the car trip for lunches and sightseeing. It was far better than the trips you hear about where the parents wouldn't even stop for a bathroom break.

Reduce travel stress

Traveling is stressful, and the stress doesn’t necessarily stop when you reach your destination. So make life easier by having the addresses you need on hand. Also, set the GPS in your phone for audible directions to get you where you’re going. Rent a car, unless you are somewhere taxis or public transit are easier to use, and when you rent, use a loyalty program to save time and paperwork. Check the weather too, to avoid surprises. Finally, allow yourself plenty of extra time.

Only 10% of the people booking their travels do not use the internet. All others do use various travel sites to book their travels. That is a huge increase since 2006.

General Motors has a new service that will let you book hotel rooms right through your car. The paid service is called "AtYourService", and will allow you to find and book a room near you through OnStar at the hotel of your choice, right through Priceline.com.
