A long list of the good - and bad - travel truths

Traveling can and should be an adventure. There are so many aspects to traveling that are often overlooked or underestimated. By being aware of all of the great truths of traveling, you can be sure to really make each moment count whether you are traveling alone, with family or with friends. Whether you travel near and far, you should make the most of each moment by embracing some long held truths of traveling.

The list in the attached article is particularly poignant. I can particularly relate to many of of the items in the list, such as:

  • how you come to realize that you would much rather travel in a small car than have a huge home and other major material possessions
  • how you will always over pack - no matter how hard you try not to
  • how it is important to keep track of what you see and feel - through journaling and photos
  • how travel makes you see the world differently - it is a degree in life

If you have traveled at all, you are bound to find many points you can relate to in the article. And - if you have never traveled - this list could easily encourage you to take the next step towards travel!

Should you travel off-season?

I make a point of traveling off-season, as it helps to keep my hotel bills under $50/day. For example, I have gone to the beach in January and February. The weather was cooler - but, I didn't mind. You can put a sweatshirt one for hikes up and down the beach. And, although fewer shops and restaurants are open - there are usually enough shops and restaurants to satisfy all.

Caution: 3-4 star hotels charge for WiFi

When you stay in a 2-star hotel, you get free WI-FI. However, the further up the "stars" you go, the higher chance that you will have to pay $30/day (and more) for WI-FI!

Starwood Hotels has implemented a program that guests find useful which offers discount vouchers to customers who refuse room cleaning, which saves water and energy.
