Escanaba, Michigan: Sunset Lodge

Submitted by Wanderlust Andi

The Sunset Lodge is a great, inexpensive motel that is just up the road from the Escanaba, Michigan downtown area, across the highway from the hotel chains. It is one of those Ma and Pa hotels that looks like it was built in the 50's, except this Ma and Pa are a friendly couple with young children. Their hospitality and travel recommendations make you feel right at home. Given the price, the room is a good size, and comes complete with a mini-fridge with a small freezer, a microwave, and table with chairs. My room was very clean and had the sheet/blanket/sheet combination that I like, plus it had great wifi and a large variety of TV channel selections.

The main motel is on the front facing the road. They also have a 4-unit section in the back which could be a good option for those who are bothered by the highway noise (I wasn't).

And - my favorite: the clock on the bed stand has plugs! How cool is that - no crawling on the floor to unplug the clock so you can plug your phone in!

All in all - I would give this hotel a strong thumbs-up!
