Mackinaw City, MI: Mackinaw Pastie and Cookie Co.
Submitted by Wanderlust AndiThe Mackinaw Pastie and Cookie Co. was one of my favorite quick-stop food places in Mackinaw City. It is a casual restaurant with several tables that serves, well, pasties and cookies and a few other items.
The pasty is a great, quick meal. You can eat your meal at the restaurant, as there are several tables. Or, if you are pushed for time, you can pick up frozen pasties and microwave them when you get back to your hotel (or your next destination).
I liked the crust of the pasties from the Mackinaw Pastie and Cookie Co. better than other pasties I have had. I have a feeling that the crust does not follow the "original crust" from back in the mining days. The miner's pasty crust was not as tender and flaky, because they needed a crust that would not fall apart in the their hands, and they needed a "pinched" crust area that they could hold while eating the pasty. But, if you are not a miner, you might find these pasties to be better than the original miners pasties.
I would highly recommend a stop at one of the 2 locations. Both locations are convenient to the hotels and town, and would be a great treat after a long day on the lake.
